High speed sync with off camera flash

Hello

Have been self teaching myself portrait lighting, using light meters pocket wizards and a AC3. It all works great, working out stop difference and switching flash off and on as needed. I am learning light positioning ,but as my background has not arrived yet, I was trying some high speed sync to darken the back ground. I used my Canon mk111, and 2 *600 exrt , TT1, TT5's. The flash was in ETTL mode as the AC3 still adjust the stops of flash, but the high speed sync did not work, it kept tripping out at my camera sync speed. The flash was set to high speed sync too. I could set the shutter speed to any speed I wanted , but still took the picture at 1/200s. Any help would be appreciated. Not sure if I am missing something obvious. Or it does not work like this. Thanks for any response. Peter
