D7100 impresses me....
In reply to JK5700, 10 months ago

I got a D7100 less than a fortnight ago and am very pleased with it's AF performance straight out of the box. I have been using D300 and D300s mainly for sport shooting using 70-200mm f2.8 VRII and 300mm f2.8 VR lenses, both with 1.4xTC when needed.

From the very first shot, the D7100 provided an improvement in image quality over D300 images. From the 1000 odd shots so far, I believe my keeper rate to also be slightly improved. I feel the D7100 autofocus has a slight performance advantage to the D300s

I have also tested my Nikon 16-35mm f4 and Tamron 24-70 f2.8 on the D7100 with very pleasing results.

I do not feel that I need to make any AF fine tuning at this time. It is early days though and I need to get a better feel for the D7100 performance under all kinds of lighting conditions.

I would suggest that you have a read of the info shown on this website -

http://johnfriend.blogspot.com.au/2009/10/nikon-d300-auto-focus-for-sports-i.html

It is info on camera settings for a D300 but it is very relevant and convertible to a D7100.  A few small tweaks may be all that is needed to get your D7100 singing for you.

Good luck,
