Lens Sharpness and low light

Most lenses now on pretty sharp, particularly on the systems I know best, Fuji and Olympus m43. Sharp enough for normal printing. Some softer lenses you can also sharpen post, but naturally you get more noise when you do this.

My question related to this is, in low light, are sharp lenses more important? Will they preserve detail better and make noise related detail loss more noticeable? Or does noise just take whatever lens down to "x" amount of sharpness?
