Although the D4 is definitely capable of giving a better picture, the K3 will do a job that isn't far behind. - It costs less and is a lot lighter.

Don't misunderstand me, if I could afford $15,000, I would get a full D4s kit but the Pentax is pretty close in terms of image quality and it's a fraction of the Nikon's price.

Personally for that money I wouldn't touch a D4. For that amount of money it had better give a huge increase in picture quality which it doesn't. I'd rather go with the Pentax 645 D. I shoot mainly landscapes and always use a tripod. I still might get a 645 D eventually but it's hard to justify it as a hobby. That's a lot of cigars and trips (with pictures to take).

Try to cover indoor sports with a 645D...

I am covering quite a few events as press photographer and would not want to miss anymore the high iso capabilities combined with a fast and reliable AF of the D4.

But when the conditions are really extreme, like shooting the Volvo Ocean Race from a rib, a fast AF is not really required, but for the price of one D4, I can get 4 K3s..
