Still Photography Malaise

Admit it or not, but still photography is in deep malaise with no sign of hope. Digital sensors are still the same as they were 10 years ago. They might shoot high ISO and have higher resolution but there is no improvement in their "aesthetic appeal". Film voodoo is something that is out of the question for most us.

The camera makers have milked the market with gimmicky cameras and now there is a backlash, no one is buying cameras, for one there is plenty, secondly they feel cheated.

With no one buying cameras, and no revenue for camera makers, there is no money for R&D and hence no new improvements.

The other issue often ignored is that computer monitors are not ideal for viewing photos. Why should you shoot 36mp when the best monitor is only 1080p? Prints are once again out of the question for most of us.

These are dark days for still photography. Would still photography be able to pull through and reinvent itself is a big question mark.

Sorry for the pessimism but I don't see any reason for optimism when it comes to still photography.
