Nikon D5200 - advice on lenses
Feb 6, 2014

I am looking to take beautiful portraits of my kids.  I have a Tamron 90mm, which I love but find if there are more than 1 person in the shot then the 2nd person is out of focus.  Also, the speed at which the kids move makes it hard to use the 90mm.  I love lots of blur in the background so work at low apertures.

Because of these reasons, I have been playing with my fixed 50mm lens (Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1.8D).  The problem is that the D is not an autofocus lens (hubby didn't realise when he bought it).  Do people just suffer with no AF?  Or should I sell this one and get a G which does AF?  The pictures are beautiful.  And we will be travelling to Europe later this year so I'm thinking a 50mm plus my kit lens (good range - can't remember what though) would be good to take.

What do you think?

Should I buy the AF 50mm?

Is there much difference between the 50mm and 90mm for portraits?

Is 50mm the way to go for good depth of field and lightening fast kids?
