Jim, the local Nikon repairman was able to get the mount straitened and working. Two of the three black 'guides' were damaged and we took them off. AF and accuracy appear to be fine.

Nikon India has a policy of not selling parts to owners or independent repairmen. Everything seems to work fine although the mount is a bit tight. I will get the mount replaced next time I have to go to Mumbai but was not willing to do it during my best period for birds

Having said that... it has not been a very good season but I did get my first ever Peregrine Falcon yesterday but at huge height for the D7100/300 2.8 w/1.7 I'll make a point of passing through that location more often and make sure I have a big lens in the jeep .

I did think about getting the replacement mount from the UK but I have had some weird dealings with Indian Customs and Excise .

ps: this was shot with naked lens after the repair

Thanks for asking and all of the best
