I guess it depends on how much you really want/need that extra $300?

I have both V1 and V2, and while I got the V1 with 10-30 kit lens for $299, I had to pay full price for the V2 and 10-100vr.   But I almost never use the V1 now.   The V2 isn't much different in IQ (even perhaps a bit worse to my eye), but the ease of use of the controls is way better on the V2.  The built-in flash makes it at least as good as a point-n-shoot indoors, finally, but the SB-N5 flash on either V1 or V2 is a lot better.  (And a little gem of a flash).

The V2 is mostly a V1 with about half the flaws fixed and a couple of new ones added in.  The on/off switch drives me crazy, and some controls still move a bit too easily. (They get changed on your putting the camera in and out of a bag.)   But it's easier to use a V2 than V1.
