I wish I was as happy with my 12-40 as everyone else seems to be. Mine does not seem particularly sharp. I've heard that it is supposed to be as sharp as the 12 2 prime.....But I think I can confidently say that my 12-40 is NOT as sharp as my copy of the 12 2.

I'm kind of disappointed, TBH.

Why not at least do a few systematic tests and see what it might be.

The standard seems to be to take a shot; turn the camera upside-down and take the same shot; rotate and compare the images looking for any differences.   A row of houses with nice sharp features is often a good subject, but any distant subject with fine details across the entire frame would be OK.  Olympus was happy to replace my faulty 60mm after having me do this kind of test (it was badly forward focused on the left).
