It may account for a bit of difference if the little tree is not very close to the fence : could be a bit softer and create impression of backfocusing.

I still need to view them really in detail, but first impressions look good.

But the 12-50 is no slouch (was not before and will never be).

As with all the fast lenses I buy, the main reason is not really (or not just) sharpness, but the low light ability, and that is something I really want in a standard zoom (because of my preferred subjects, i.e. reportage work in natural light).
