Ultra-wide lens vs stitched images
Feb 2, 2014

I need a very wide angle lens and recently tried Sigma 10-20mm. See picture below, captured at 10mm on D5200 (full size : 6K x 4K)

Distortion and corner-softness are quite visible, which is typical for this type of lens.

As an alternative solution, I took multiple shots with Nikon 18-200 (at 18am) and merged (stitched) them together for the following image, with some contrast enhancement. It covers a wider area than 10mm lens. Full size is 15K x 6K, but I reduced the size for uploading to this forum:

Although it takes more effort to create the second image, overall I feel it has higher quality.

I was wondering if you have experience comparing images from ultra-wide images with stitched ones, and if you have any recommendations.
