I found this thread and some of the expectation/comments puzzling, and at the same time amusing !!

The 12-40mm is a lens designed as a PRO lens with as little compromise as possible. On the other hand, the 12-50mm is clearly a lens designed for maximum versatility and low cost, and can be expected to have ordinary speed and resolution. Now, go directly compare their image qualtiy. What??

It's like a thread asking for comparison of the Voigtlander 17mm f/0.95 with that of the Olympus 17mm f//1.7 in how they fare in street shooting situations, and posts commenting that the Voigtlander is clumpsy, slow focusing, intimidating strangers, ... .
