Minolta didn’t ‘dump’ the SR mount
I sometimes see that claimed by people who should know better. The AF mount and the SR mount cameras were two systems that continued on in parallel, you could still buy new SR mount cameras from Minolta as late as 2001. In actual fact it was people who dumped the manual focus mount cameras in preference for AF mount cameras but Minolta still had bodies for sale for the old system if you needed one for your old lenses they just didn’t develop more new lenses for the old MF system due to the downturn in sales for that system, in any case the MF system had a fairly complete lens system as it was.
You could say that by releasing the AF mount Minolta effectively sidelined the old MF mount, but then if Minolta hadn’t done it some other maker would have sooner or later.
