what to do with this problem

The light of the bulb flowing over the flowerpot.

Oversaturated pixels pouring signal to the neighbouring ones?

I shot my friend's agama terrarium and this is what happened. Is there any way how to make sure it doesn't happen again or is it just a "feature" I'll have to live with? I've never noticed anything like that on any other pictures I've taken so far.

What is this problem called?
