The great snow of 01/28/2014 in Houston (tongue-in-cheek)
Jan 28, 2014

Our second ice storm in less than a week after not having any for three years proved that forecasting weather is still more guess than science.  The first storm caused so many problems for us southerners we really overreacted to this one--schools and public offices closed, etc. and then very little ice, sleet or snow showed up.  Today is trash day and the cans are still sitting out along the curbs and the sun has been in and out.  So here are a few shots with the SX50 for your amusement.

Obviously too much snow for trash pickup :0)

The nandinas  still with green leaves and red berries enjoy the sun melting the sleet

These bluebonnets coming up through the red bud roots enjoy the faux snow

A single Texas bluebonnet on the rocks -- I'll drink to that!

BTW the red barrels in the first photo are full of pine needles and leaves that I racked up Sunday in my shirtsleeves because it was 70F.
