Unscientific "study" proving m4/3 as popular as Nikon
11 months ago

Just from curiosity, I counted the posts in Nikon 1 (12), Nikon Pro DX (5), Nikon DX (37), and Nikon FX (45) forums on this site for a total of (99) total posts in the last 24 hours at the time of counting, which was mid-afternoon this Sunday, California time.

Similarly, the total posts in the m4/3 forum were...check this...(99)!

So, can one glean the following from this?

1. Unless a larger format MILC is announced, Nikon's future growth lies in the FX market since the Pro DX (D300) market is near totally dead, and the N1 system as well, because of poor sales and lack of interest. Seemingly then, no new "Pro" DX camera will be introduced and the N1 system will be downgraded to a P&S. Are entry level DX, FX and Super-Zoom P&S all Nikon needs for the future?

2.MILCs (and possibly m4/3 format) are gaining popularity. New cameras and technology momentum could soon overtake the DSLR market causing the popularity of entry-level DSLRs to plummet as new and younger customers discover the versatility and advantages of MILC cameras.

Interesting, too, is the list of Most Popular Cameras. 3 FF cameras in the top 10 with the MILC Sony beating the FF Df and 6D combined 38.9% to 7.1%. The only DX SLR listed in the top 10 is the Nikon D7100 at 2.9%. All remaining cameras on the Most Popular list are mirror-less. This seems to echo the traffic in individual forums.

Do the camera manufacturers seriously monitor forums like this to judge how sentiment flows?
