Some test data for my fellow camera nerds...

So, while I sipped my Sunday morning Bloody Mary, I thought I'd go through all my test shots and give them a ranking between 2 and 5, based on how bad the blur was.

2: Roughly equal to the bad shot in my original post.
3: Obvious vertical ghosting, but maybe something I could deal with.
4: Not bad, but if you look for it you can find the ghosting.
5: Perfectly fine.

Note: This is about as unscientific as it gets. It was a fast judgement call on each photo.

Here were my results at each shutter speed:

1/40

2: 0
3: 3
4: 6
5: 1

1/60

2: 5
3: 5
4: 0
5: 0

1/80

5: 10

Notes on testing:

Shot with the 45mm 1.8, about 8 feet from the subject, sitting down, without using a viewfinder.  Kept the ISO at 200, and let the aperture float as I adjusted shutter speed (I wish I'd instead adjusted ISO and kept aperture constant.  High aperture values could've accounted for some of the softness at 1/40 and 1/60).  IS was on auto, antishock was not enabled.  I didn't have an interest in enabling a 1/8 second delay as that wouldn't work for most of my real world shooting.
