will my nex-6 work okay in -40celsius???

Hi I am planning a trip to yellowknife cannada (for aurora lights) in 2 weeks, i heard that the temperature at night time will be most likely between -30celsius ~ -40celsius. unfortunately the only camera i have is nex-6 (E1018) which is not weather sealed. so i was hoping if anyone here can give me some advise on this matter.

I did some researches before some people did manage to take some great shots with nex series cameras in cold environment, but majority said that it wont be an ideal choice for aurora shootings. I was in Montreal Canada last weeks experiencing -10c~-20c temperature, my nex6 worked okay (my definition) apart from sometimes being sluggish, batteries died too soon, mode switching menu popped up for no reason, at least it took pictures! But Yellowknife will be a completely different level when it comes to coldness...

I am thinking of a few tricks that might help:

-wrap my camera with handwarmers, using rubber bands or sticky tape....

-use kitchen zip bag for transition between cold and warm...

-store spare batteries in pocket, probably with handwarmers again..

should it just risk it and take it to yellowknife anyway? or should i just postpone my trip and wait for a new camera?

i-seriously-dont-want-to-spend-over-$1000-to-go-there-when-i-cannot-take-any-aurora-pictures vs since-i-have-come-this-far-to-north-america-i-might-as-well-just-do-it-who-knows-whether-i-will-have-a-chance-like-this-in-the-future-or-not (I am from china)....

I really need advices :'(

thanks in advance...
