GM1 at Ripley's Aquarium Toronto
Jan 24, 2014

Ripley's Aquarium is the latest tourist attraction in Toronto, and it offers some great challenges and opportunities for photography.  The challenges include dealing with the light, which is generally low and a variety of colors that make it difficult for AWB to handle (shooting RAW is virtually mandatory).  Fish are almost always on the move, so if you must use reasonably high shutter speeds if you want to avoid blurring (IS doesn't help here), which means correspondingly high ISO.  The lowest I used was 1600, and went as high as 6400.  You also have to position yourself in a way that avoids reflections.  I used the GM1 with the 12-32 kit lens, and the combination worked quite well.

The upside is the opportunity to take pictures of exotic fish and other denizens of the sea.  It's also a good place for people pictures.  Here are a few samples.
