For me, it is fun and nostalgic to use the old manual lenses - greeting old friends again. The down side is the annoying lack of split prism focusing. It isn't that easy to focus a fast lens on a standard AF camera screen. My favorite old friend from the back of the closet: Mamiya-Sekor 60mm f/2.8 1:1 macro. My favorite "off fleabay" new old friend: used Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AIS.

Aberrations were not as well corrected in the old days, but given the right settings, the color and contrast are quite appealing and sharpness fine. Bokeh is variable, as always. A lot of old lenses had 6-leaf, straight-edged diaphragms, leading to funky hexagonal bokeh.

Funky hexagonal highlights, not bokeh. Bokeh is everything rendered OOF.
