XP-1 Moving the focus point: When do you use this?

My question applies to all cameras that have moveable focus point in the viewfinder (or LCD)

I see a lot of people discussing the benefits of being able to manually move the focusing brackets around the viewfinder.

What I'm wondering is; in the real world, when do you use this feature? Personnaly I find it a lot easier and faster to lock onto my focus point, recompose and shoot.

I can see that if the camera is on a tripod and your desired focus point is off centre, then you need to be able to move it around. Or, if focus lock and re-compose would give you the wrong exposure value, then it is an advantage.

Other than those two above scenarios, I can't see me needing it.  Are other people regularly using the focus point shifting buttons and if so, in which situations?

(I'm not complaining about having this feature, just curious as to how folk are using it and not wanting to miss out)
