Is it possible that better handling methods might reduce the problem of shutter shock?  When people complain that smaller bodies are not applicable to larger lens use, I wonder if they know how to hold those combinations.  I know the general movement seems to be toward LCD-only use, but the eye-level EVF does tend to force a different holding pattern (left hand under and supporting the lens and the right hand making adjustments and depressing (not punching...a possible problem in itself) the shutter release.  When mounted on a tripod, is the tripod solid, or is it a lightweight travel type?  There has to be more to the problem.
