Higher Resolution and Crop Factor

Considering upgrading from NEX-7 to A7R for the IQ but have my doubts about my ability to get long reach lenses at reasonable prices.

My current longest lens is Nikon 170mm on NEX-7

Is there an equivalence formula that takes into consideration both the crop factor and the resolution difference? Am I thinking correctly that the extra detail available, may enable a bit of an acceptable "digital zoom" allowance? Or is the contribution of higher resolution negligible?
