The NFL looks at eliminating the Point After Touchdown
Jan 21, 2014

Since only a handful of PATs are not successful, the NFL is thinking about getting rid of it-

It seems to me that the NFL made the current situation when they made it illegal for defensive player to climb on the back of a team mate to get more height, and they can't jump over the pile to block it either. The defensive players can only block the kick by rushing forward, or go around from the ends in an attempt to block the kick.

Make it legal to try and leap over your teammate, maybe making it so the player can't be taking a running stand from inside the end zone, but must be standing on the goal line or no more than one yard behind the defensive line. This will reduce injuries.

The NFL made the PAT kick almost automatic, and they can make it exciting again with a rule change.
