Thanks for the responses. I was wanting to change the EXIF date and a bunch of images because the camera date was incorrect but I found I could do it through the menus without having to touch the file.

I do however still want to find a way to show where an image sits in disk.

Did you know you can batch change the date and time within Aperture and have these changes written permanently to the original file.

Just select the images and then go to the metadata menu and select Adjust date and time and then alter the date and time and check the change original file button..
