The 12-35 f/2.8 is an excellent lens in most respects, but I have noticed that it does produce more flare than some much cheaper lenses.

Here is a comparison of the same scene taken with the 12-35 and the new 12-32 lens (the image is of no pictorial merit, it was taken purely to compare the flare in the two lenses):

12-35 f/2.8 lens at 18mm f/8

12-32 f/3.5-5.6 lens at 18mm f/8

I would guess that one important reason for the difference is that the 12-35 lens has 14 elements, while the 12-32 lens has only 8. The smaller aperture probably helps, too.
