Actually, I've done that and the quality was quite good. Remember, with a FF lens on an MFT body, you're only using the center of the lens, the sharpest part. If the lens was made for digital, it will do just fine on MFT. The downside is no AF.

Maybe it's not MFT that is expensive but the nifty fifty's of canon and nikon that are cheap. It wouldn't surprise me if canon/nikon use these types of lenses to get people to buy into the system. They might not even make any profit on them. Canon/Nikon have making DSLR's for a long time and have a much bigger market share so they probably benefit more from economies of scale.  I also imagine there R&D costs are less. The cost of the raw materials is not the only thing that goes into the price.
