if I understand your question correctly, the answer would be the JCC spring-loaded leaf cap. Many of us use it on our various LX models. i get mine at Digital Gojo online, and they also distribute the Kiwi tubes.

That is probably a good alternative. I have looked at it but always wondered if it is easy to get off. Could you comment?

Sure, Dennis, be glad to. After you remove the lens thread cover, exposing the threads, you merely screw the JCC on. Removal is easy. And if you're using the extension tube, the bayonet mount is much easier and quicker than the OEM made for the LX5. Fully extended, the lens is recessed about an 1/8" -3/16" from the front edge. Hope this helps. Oh, the JCC is $10-12 USD.
