Actually, RX100 II with its f/1.8 on the wide end and BSI sensor competes very well with, say, D3100 with f/3.5 lens at the wide end.

IMO mirrorless cameras are a no mans land, not really compactible enough to be called compact and not enough IQ and low light performance to match modern dslrs from Nikon.

Most mirrorless cameras have exactly the same sensors as DSLRs. For example, Sony NEX-5N released 2.5 years ago had exactly the same sensor as D5100 you've mentioned.
