As I recall, PC eventually annihilated Mac because Apple stuck to a premium price policy and limited add-on.

As I recall, the PC did no such thing.  Macintoshes are still around, and Apple commands a higher profit share in the desktop and laptop markets than any other personal computer maker.

What about the Wintel market leaders?  IBM exited the PC hardware business, saying that it wasn't profitable enough for them.  A few years later, when HP was on top of the PC volume heap, they toyed with the idea of doing the same.

With the return of Steve Jobs, Mac was resurrected as HIP. But, Apple's current prominence is based on their mobile communication devices. Currently, PC is still the overwhelming favourite for desktop computing.

The Macintosh business would be doing well now whether iPhones and iPads ever existed.  (And in the case of the iPad, the iPad may boost some Macintosh sales, but it probably cannibalizes others.)
