Stumped again...

I am starting to learn about Smart Objects and I am lost on how to do a few things, not sure if I am using that correctly.

Workflow is as follows:

1) Put portrait into Imagenomic Portraiture (filter) for skin smoothing.

2) Put result into Topaz Adjust (filter) for color effects.

3) Put result into Nik Sharpener (filter) for output sharpening.

I have a layer, portrait with a mask that only has the skin tone selected. I put that through Imagenomic Portraiture to smooth out only the skin mask.

Do I convert that layer to a smart object at this point?

Now I need to plug in that layer, or smart object, into Topaz Adjust WITHOUT the prior skin layer mask so that the filter can process the whole image. When I duplicated the prior smart object from step 1, the layer mask is carried along.

How do I duplicate a prior smart object without carrying along its layer mask? I just need its result.

Finally, I need to put the image into Nik Sharpener for selective sharpening. I want everything but the skin to be sharpened.

How do I invert the skin layer mask from step 1 so that it gets sharpened by Nik?
