Exposure compensation for Nikon D600

I now own a D40X, D5100 and a D600. When first using all three cameras (large/fine setting), the photos were consistently on the dark side. To get a proper exposure using the cameras metering, I have had to change the exposure compensation on all three cameras. With the D40X I had to change to +0.3. With the D5100 I had to change to +0.7. Finally with the D600 I had to change to +1.0.

Has anyone had the same experience with the D600 or other Nikon DSLR's? Is this common with Nikon DSLR's?
