Nikon 80-400 AF-S VR collar - Kirk vs Really Right Stuff
9 months ago

I'm trying to decide on the best tripod plate mount for the Nikon 80-400 AF-S VR. There's another slight twist because I also have a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR that I want to adapt to arca plate mount. Here's the two options:

Really Right Stuff lens collar LC-A13 ($140)+ LCF-10 Replacement foot($100). The LCF-10 also adapts to the Nikon 70-200 which is a nice double use. Total $240

Kirk Lens collar for 80-400 ($159.95) + Really Right Stuff LCF-10 Replacement foot for the Nikon 70-200 ($100). Total $259.95 - There is a slight advantage here because the collars can stay on both lenses without moving the LCF-10 back and forth.

What it really boils down to is whether the Kirk or Really Right stuff lens collar is better. I would lean towards the Kirk for convenience, but RRS usually has great adapters also. Suggestions?
