Oly 12-40mm for Portraits?

Hi there,

this will be the first thread I start here. I am currently weighing a decision whether. I should get the 12-40mm or the 45mm 1.8 and a kit lens instead. i would love to have the constant f2.8 aperture for versatility and low light shots on the go without carrying extra lenses but two thoughts worry me. 1. Will i be able to shoot decent portraits with it (somewhat shallow dof) and 2. Is it to big for my e-p 5.

The 45mm I used to own and so I know it can take beautiful portrait shots.  i would not bother buying it again, but than I could not afford the 12-40 And the kit lens alternatives I don't know except for the 12-50 which is okay but overpriced in my mind. Any suggestions. Examples of portraits with the 12-40 are very much welcome.
