Camera tests done for resolution are done using lenses from the camera lines themselves. However, you can pretty much guarantee a Nikon tested with a top-notch Zeiss lens is going to test better than one with a Nikon lens (no offense to Nikon lenses). This may be "cheating" because that lens is not from their line, but it at least does give an idea of what a camera is really capable of. I tried a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 lens on a D300, then I tried a Zeiss ZF 35mm f/2.0 and the Zeiss clearly bettered the Nikon, producing an image with more resolution than the Nikon lens. So, the Nikon is capable of higher resolution than it might have displayed in its test. So, a no-name lens, manufactured to delivery the absolutely highest resolution and contrast might shed more light on what a camera is capable of than lenses from its own line. How hard would it be to construct mounts for each camera tested?
