Latest XP con from Microsoft.

Several colleagues, over past week, have suddenly got an unremovable message on their desktops (lower right above taskbar - and quite large too and stays on top, making it difficult in some programmes to see the scroll bars in that area) saying their version of Windows (XP that is) is invalid and they should purchase a valid version immediately, if not sooner. Everything is designed to panic them into thinking they have a pirated version of XP - which they definitely do not have. Clicking to find out what this is all about leads to an MS webpage that then states they cannot purchase a new version of XP as it is no longer available and in effect, is a blatant attempt to get them to panic and purchase Windows 7 or 8 instead.

Further down that page it states that support for XP ceases on 8th April 2014.

Let me confirm that their versions of XP are perfectly valid and indeed registered with MS when their versions were purchased - in one case came on a new computer from a reputable local supplier. All had been previously validated.

Nasty piece of marketing I feel! MS should be ashamed of trying to make people purchase Win7 or Win8 using this underhand method of marketing. Honesty would have been far better.
