Italy with the G1X and SL1 - links to images
2

I have to have my annual "Italy fix" , and this past October I traveled light with my G1X and newer SL1 /18-55 STM IS lens. It was a delightful to have two really good smaller cameras, as due to some joint replacement in both wrists, I've had to temporarily (I hope) give up using my 7D /24-105 which is my favorite travel combination. I used the G1X and SL1 about equally on the trip, each being a backup for the other, should a camera problem arise.

As many of you know, I truly enjoy photographing in museums, not so that I can get "my picture" of museum treasures, but more in observing people reacting to art as in my images from Paris in 2012.

But on my Italy trips for the past three or four trips, I have had to find other "pictorial focuses"  as Italian state museums have strictly prohibited photography for a number of years. There are a few exceptions to this, like the Vatican in Rome, and the Museo del Duomo in Florence, though I will not be surprised if the latter adopts the photographic prohibition when the new Museo del Duomo opens in 2015.

Being a former Art History teacher, it is fun to add some observations on my images. So here are three Italy galleries from Rome, Florence and Siena this year, with my commentary below the images for those who care to read. Enjoy !
