It doesn't help with reaction time because the viewfinder image is just as big whether you are in crop mode or DX mode! So the subject has more space around the captured image in DX mode anyway which is what you are seeing in the viewfinder in the crop mode as "extra".

That was my point in my first response...the second one was just an explanation of what I was trying to say...that it wasn't going to help.
