Zoom Focal Length On APS-C sensor?

I hope I can ask this question without it sounding too confusing.

If my camera has an aps-c sensor and the lcd screen says I'm at 50mm on the kit zoom lens, does this mean the field of view is the 35mm equivalent of 50mm or actually 50mm so therefore the 35mm equivalent field of view of 75mm?

The reason I'm asking is if I switch to a 50mm prime lens, which on the aps-c sensor will be the full frame equivalent of 75mm, will I have the same field of view as when the camera says I'm at 50mm on the kit lens?

I would assume it would be the same and that the 50mm on the kit lens has the full frame field of view of 75mm but just wanted to make sure I understand how it works...

thanks

Tim
