Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 vs Tamron 90mm - How on Earth is this Possible?
Dec 28, 2013

Go to The Digital Picture site and see the comparison between these two lenses. Can someone explain to me how can a zoom (and not even the Nikkor 70-200) blow out of the water the prime (and a very respected prime, such as the Tamron 90mm) in pretty much every focal length and every aperture? Even at the corners and @200mm wide-open, it's somewhat superior to the prime. It takes the added TC (280mm) to see the slightest of advantages for the prime - in the center. The corners of the zoom + TC are still better!

There must be something wrong with the test here. Any opinions?

I had once worked extensively with a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 over a period of two weeks, and my findings were much, much different. Decent overall, but wide-open at 200mm was clearly inferior to any prime I could compare it with - absolutely nothing like what the test implies
