Some advice needed on buying lighting for both video and photography
8 months ago

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on buying lighting for both video and photography, as I will be spending a lot of money these next couple of months to set-up my own business (on my own, so no assistants).

Videography
Shooting video will be the maincore of my business. ENG, corporate, weddings, etc.

On-camera light: Lishuai LED312AS On-camera Bi-colour LED Light

Key light: Kino Flo KIT-D4-230 Diva-Lite 401 Kit
http://www.proav.co.uk/Kino-Flo-KIT-D4-230-Diva-Lite-401-Kit/p33584.aspx

1x stand for the Kino Flo

Photography
At this point there will be on-locaton shoots only. No budget for setting up a studio at this point.

Flash light: Canon speedlite 600EX-rT

Flash diffuser: Lightsphere® Collapsible™ G5 Lighting Kit: Fashion & Commercial

2x extra stands for the flash lights (there will be 2 camera's)

So these are the basic materials which I strongly prefer myself. I'm doing a lot of interviews, so the Kino Flo is kind of a no-brainer. I also like the shape of the on-camera LED light. As for the photography-part; I'm buying two 5D Mark III's, and as far as I know, the speedlite flash is the best you can get. I was a bit hesitant at first concerning Gary Fong's Lightsphere, but it really looks likes a neat gadget (some video's -- like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD3AL3O8O0A -- pulled me over).

What am I missing?

Since my remaining budget isn't that big, I can't afford to buy any more lighting-kits woth over a $1000. Let's say my budget is $1500; where does that leave me?
What other lighting-setup would you guys recommend me on using? I know I need my fill, back, dedo/spots for lighting up backdrops... but like I said; $1500. I also have to keep in mind on which to use: flash or continuous lighting, softbox or umbrella's, reflectors/bouncers, because the best scenario would be to use the lights on both video and photography (to lower the costs).
I hope this all makes sense for now
Thanks so far!
