Do people prefer magazines or books based on photography?

As it is, the market is saturated with both books and magazines based on photography and here in UK a magazine would cost almost the same as a book with only 4-5 articles of interest mainly on how to improve photography technique, most of which is already basic book content. The rest of the magazine consists of digital image manipulation using software, advertisements, new product reviews and so on. How important are these other magazines features to magazine readers? Whereas a book on digital photography covers all the basics plus tutorials, tips, techniques all i one book etc.

One month you might see a basic article on how to use aperture priority or some other basic technique and next month issues might come with an article on shutter priority. You get the idea.

What I mean is what you see in books is quite often recycled over an over again overtime in magazines and too in less details covering only 1 or 2 pages. So what attracts readers to these magazines?Do people find it worth spending around £$-£5 for 5 useful articles when you could buy a book on the subject for around £6 with many pages or more content and useful information?
