What Pentax is lagging behind is the AF motor, screw drive and SDM need to be retired.

Why in the world would they do that? You don't like the pancake DA Limiteds? You do realize they're that small because the lens doesn't have an AF motor in it?

and not just small, but likely more reliable in the long run as well. I fully expect them to work fine 30 years from now, just as 30-years old SMC Pentax lenses are working now. Pity they don't have the aperture rings anymore, though...

If you don't like the screw drive, then you can choose from other lenses with built in motors...

You can still create small reliable lens with USM / HSM motor

the motor itself is a weak point, at least we don't have a track record or do we?

I do like the DA Limiteds but screw drive really need to be phased out

ok, lets make it plain and simple: I don't agree with you on that.

But it would be nice if everybody had a choice, of course. Choice is always good.

Right more choice is always good What do you mean by "the motor itself is a weak point, at least we don't have a track record or do we?"

My biggest problem with screw drive aside from the noise is the rotating focusing ring.

I owned older pentax lens (F*300) and Pentax had the tech no make focusing ring to not rotate, if Pentax insist that screw drive is the way to go then I think this should be implemented again

They do now - most of the DA lenses have Quick Shift Focus with non-rotating rings. The F* 300mm f/4.5 was introduced in 1987, don't assume Pentax is at the same technological level as back then.

Alex

I haven't used the da ltd but owned 12-24 and 55-300 which have the quick shift and the focusing ring do rotate. If the da ltd is different then that's news for me.
