Only ETTR if you are shooting Raw

Can someone explain to me why I should expose to the right (ETTR) in low light conditions.

In all conditions for Raw, to capture the maximum dynamic range.

If you are shooting JPEG, expose for the exposure that is closest to your desired output with the minimum amount of PP. All PP using a JPEG as your starting image (either amplification or attenuation) will reduce the dynamic range of the image.
