Crikey…I've bought an X-Vario!
Dec 21, 2013

I love my M9 but I'm prone to laziness sometimes, and having a fixed small zoom lens camera that will do some of the work for me, is very a attractive proposition. And as I don't often shoot less than f5.6 - f8 anyway the X-Vario looked a good bet. So after reading loads of reviews, looking at Rodrigue's wonderful shots and talking to Euston (a previous, well respected forum member here) who an X-Vario, I took the plunge and got one myself.

Two outings so far, trying out auto focus and zone focussing, aperture priority and auto everything.

I have to say that I like it a lot, despite a couple of miss-focus issues at max zoom, and one or two when trying to focus on a not very contrasty area.

Zone focus was good. Just as with the M9 I set a highish ISO, in this case 800 or 1600, aperture to f8, and set the lens markings to 10-15 feet. It's great being able to quickly switch between manual and auto focus with just a small twist of the lens.

So far, so good. A few examples:

Happy Christmas!
