Travel lens - which option?

Steve - I find that the 18-270 Tamron is not good for zooming in video. Not smooth at all.

I know that zooming while capturing video should be avoided when possible, but sometimes it must be done.  In those cases, the lens seems less than ideal.

Is that your experience as well?
