How to evaluate camera movement?

Hi,

I would like to prepare for member of our photoclub small contest regarding the camera stability during exposure.  The question is, how to evaluate the picture blur which should be proportional to the camera movement. There is absolutely no need to have x, y, (z ) coordinates vs time, but mutual comparison of our guys showing whose hands are rock solid. I am thinking of fixing a laser pointer to the hot shoe and try to evaluate in PS the area of red track written on a wall during long enough exposure time in a dark room. The results could be then compared to the shot made with tripod. What do you think about it? Have you any better solution or ideas? Many thanks in advance.
