I've always avoided flash...

When I discovered that my NEX-F3 flash could be tilted back to bounce off the ceiling, I tried it out and discovered that built-in flash photos don't have to look bad! i'm used to direct flash photos where the foreground is over-exposed and flat, and the background is dark, completely ruining the ambience of the scene.

Simply tilting the flash up to a white ceiling produces really nice lighting! This won't be news to anyone that knows anything about flash photography, but I'm amazed at what even the little built-in flash on the F3 can do. This photo was taken in a very dim room (would have been ISO 3200, 1/10s with no flash to get a decent exposure, using the slow kit zoom lens) and I think it turned out very nicely. I'm looking forward to getting a proper external flash unit and experimenting further.

Sony Alpha NEX-F3
