Sony DSC-HX300 - taking macro from a distance - how to perfect

Scenario: I'm standing under a roofline and wanting to photograph a wasps nest up there. So, I'm relatively close to the subject, but want to zoom in to photograph especially, the 'doorway-tunnel' construction.  Thinking this would become then, a 'macro-shot'.

The camera can't zoom nice and close to the object-section, without totally blurring the image.

Is my only option to take the photo, and then crop the wanted feature?

I tried Aperature, Landscape, and M-modes.

Thanks in advance for your advice.
