Back roller sticky, jumpy

Digged out my D200 after a few months of inactivity. The back roller feels off. First, the turning has a 'sticky' feel to it - it doesn't provide the distinct clicks that the front roller does. It's like there's a piece of rubber jammed somewhere inside or maybe spilled coke. Worse, I noticed that it's also jumpy - sometimes it doesn't register a turn, sometimes it registers too many or registers the turn the wrong way.

Is there any DYI solution to this issue without disassembly? I think it's getting better as I keep turning it, but still not great.

Thanks in advance!

BTW recently I also digged out the old Pronea S, also unused for a while (but not that long (maybe 2 years) with the same issue, only way worse.
